Architecture Rotterdam
The harbour of Rotterdam is the second biggest of the world. Some parts of the harbour near the inner-city are not in
use anymore and transformed in living and working areas. The Kop van Zuid and the Lloydkwartier (Müllerpier and Lloydpier)
are examples of this new development.
Kop van Zuid
In Rotterdam, the harbour activities are directed towards the sea. The areas that are left, as the Wilhelminapier,
Müller- en Lloydpier, are developed in living- and working areas.
On the Whilhelminapier the former office of one of the shipping companies is transformed in hotel New York.
New high-rise buildings are built. By example the World Port Centre of Norman Foster and the tower Montevideo of Mecanoo.
This tower is 152 meter high and offers space on apartments, a swimming pool, fitness, offices and a parking garage.
